PULP PACKAGING
Recycling is essential for achieving a more circular and sustainable future. In the realm of packaging, fiber-based materials boast the highest recyclability rates in Europe.
Molded pulp packaging, also referred to as molded fiber packaging, is produced using various fibrous materials like recycled paper, cardboard scraps, or natural fibers such as sugarcane bagasse, bamboo, and wheat straw. The choice of raw materials influences the packaging’s color, surface texture, and physical characteristics.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS
The creation of pulp packaging involves several steps. Initially, raw materials like cardboard, newspapers, or natural fibers are mixed with water to form a pulp slurry. A mesh forming tool is then submerged in the slurry, and a vacuum draws the mixture through the mesh until the desired thickness is reached. The wet forms are detached from the mesh and dried, resulting in rough, uneven surfaces. To achieve a smoother finish, these parts are pressed using heated metal tools. At this stage, logos or designs can be embossed. Finally, the edges are trimmed, and any necessary holes or windows are cut out.
CARTONPACK Group, thanks to the technical experience of DECAPULP S.L., has implemented a top level expertise in the industrial processing of pulp as a highly eco-sustainable raw material that’s perfect for the manufacturing of fully recyclable packaging both in the food and fresh produce industry.
The product range and the applications are really wide: from the tray liners for stone fruits (apples, peaches, kiwis, pears, melons, etc) to the heat-sealing solutions for punnets and trays (berries, tomatoes).
This is a huge step towards a more responsible and advanced proposal of products for market development in terms of environmental sustainability.
